‘Then the temple of the Lord was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.’ 2 Chronicles 5.13-14
The picture these words convey is quite dramatic. At the service of consecration, the priests, who no doubt had their own expectations of what was meant to happen in the service, were utterly bowled over by the sense of the presence of God and they were unable to do what they expected to do. No doubt their sense of the presence of God changed, and eventually they would not sense his presence as they had on that occasion, but I imagine that they took their duties even more seriously, knowing that God was in their midst.
We don’t have clouds floating around us to remind us of his presence, but we have something equally as powerful. Paul writes of us: ‘The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you.’ We have existing within us something that is similar to the presence of God that dwelt in that temple. While the priests could feel and see that presence we have to take it by faith, but it is still as real.
Whatever we face today, let us go into each situation aware that the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in us.
A daily encouragement to remind you of God's love and commitment to you.
