Passing on grace

‘Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.’ 1 Peter 4.10

The implication of this verse is that we have been entrusted with a reservoir of God’s grace and we have a choice whether or not to open it. Of course, it is God’s wish that we let grace flow at all times, but we are his co-workers in this process. The alternative, of course, is that we open other reservoirs that may be present within us – perhaps of anger or bitterness, or even reservoirs that we may think have dried up, but which can have a negative effect on others.

However, this passage is addressed to ‘each one’, to all of us. If you are coming into contact with other people today, which reservoir will you open up for them?

God has shown remarkable grace to each of us; he gave us Jesus to demonstrate his kindness to us. It is worth considering how much grace you are really showing towards yourself. If you can begin to see yourself through God’s eyes, you are more likely to see others through his graceful eyes as well.

What does it mean to you to be loved by God? Take it seriously and enjoy it.
