The Father is always at work

‘Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working . . . the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”’ John 5.17-19

Jesus and the things he did were clearly linked to the work of his Father, but when Jesus explained this the people listening took such offence they tried to kill him. It is amazing that Jesus took such an incredible risk to say something potentially so dangerous. Presumably, the reason was that his statement contained something Jesus really wanted to be heard: that his Father was always at work, no matter what people were going through.

So what is God doing? Paul writes in Philippians 2.13 (NLT), ‘For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.’ In other words, the Father is at work in you right now, doing what he can to draw you to him and to keep you close.

You may face struggles, and at times may wonder how you are going to get through them. The truth is that you will get through because the Father is at work in you, seeking to turn you more and more to him. Hold on to these words today: ’The Father is at work in me.’
