Does Jesus want to heal you?

‘At once Jesus realised that power had gone out from him. He turned round in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”’ Mark 5.30
One of the strangest elements in the story of the woman who touched the cloak of Jesus is that we are not told whether or not he actually wanted to bring healing to her! Once she touched him and power flowed, he asked: “Who touched my clothes?” In other words, he didn’t know! He did not deliberately seek her out to bring healing to her, nor was he inwardly willing her to touch him – the healing happened without his express desire.
This is so powerful for us when we are tempted to wonder whether Jesus wants to heal us, and it puts a different perspective on our uncertainty. Rather than presenting a picture of Jesus specifically looking around for certain people to heal, he is pictured as a living reservoir of the heart of God: God’s heart flowed naturally out of him.
This is not to say that Jesus was unwilling to heal – so much of his ministry was about him bringing healing to people. The story demonstrates that his healing ministry is something that has its roots in the heart of God. Even when Jesus did not deliberately choose to heal, the Father’s loving heart still reached out to this woman.
As you approach Jesus with your requests, accept that he is a living fountain of God’s love. You do not have to try to convince him about your needs, but simply hold them out to him as he overflows with the love of God.
