God is thrilled with our faith

“Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20.29
Jesus spoke these words to Thomas just after he had shown him the physical marks of the crucifixion on his risen body, but his words are also so affirming to us. No doubt we would all like to have more faith, and it is probably true that if we were to place ourselves on a spectrum of faith many of us would put ourselves somewhere near the bottom. If we ever stopped to consider what God thinks about our faith, we probably imagine that he would say something along the lines of – ‘could do better!’
The truth is actually far from this. Thomas believed once he saw with his own eyes and touched with his own fingers, but actually what Jesus said to him is along the lines of, ‘Big deal! The ones who really impress me are those who will believe without having seen me with their physical eyes or touched me with their physical fingers.’ That’s us – that’s you! In Jesus’ eyes, the faith you have is beautiful to him. Jesus calls you blessed; he is delighted with the faith you have. Of course, there could always be more, but he rejoices in what he sees within you.
If you can catch this, you will begin to sense something of his delight in you. It’s not just that Jesus tolerates you but that he really delights in you.
