He sees your heart

“…for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts.” 1 Chronicles 28.9

A sudden surge of panic may arise after reading these words! It’s not always a good thing that God knows absolutely everything!

We often feel we ought to strive to be perfect, as well as highly successful in our lives and in everything we do for the Lord. However, the reality can be quite different, with our prayer times feeling as if we are talking to a brick wall and our attempts at evangelism leaving us wondering why we bother. It can be very easy to feel a bit of a failure.

At times like these, this verse can be such an encouragement because it explains that God looks at the heart behind our actions, not simply at the results. If you pray for something because you long to see God bringing about transformation, he knows about it. When you speak about Jesus, often in ways outside your comfort zone, he also sees this. At times when you long to pray but find it so hard, he is well aware of the desire of your heart.

We are so quick to convince ourselves that God is against us, when the truth is he loves us and appreciates every faltering attempt to bring his glory to this world.

‘Lord, you know my heart.’

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
