‘. . . for he has done it.’ Psalm 22.31
This glorious truth – that in Christ, God has already done everything needed for your prayers to be answered – deserves to be put into practice. A simple way to do this is to take time reflecting on what difference the life, death and resurrection of Jesus makes to the particular prayers you offer to God.
If you are praying for someone in need, the difference this truth makes is that God has already demonstrated the depth of his love for that person by giving them the most precious thing he has to give. Why would he hold anything else back?
A situation that may be causing you anxiety can be transformed by recognising that Jesus has been raised to such an exalted position that everything else is under his feet and subject to him. Throughout his life, Jesus revealed God’s true nature. If your prayer today is for yourself but you aren’t sure how God might react, visualise yourself approaching the Jesus of the New Testament. Then approach God with a similar ease and joy. As you bring to God those things you want to lift to him, rather than simply supplying a list, ponder each of your requests from the perspective of what God has already done for you in that situation.
The wrong attitude when praying can so often prevent God’s graceful response from being heard and received, yet he gave us Jesus so we might approach his throne with confidence. ‘He has done it’ is what should shape your prayers today.
