Reigning in Life

‘For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!’ Romans 5.17

What a fabulous verse – the more we receive, the more we reign!  Too often any sense of reigning in life is a distant dream.  We often feel as though we stagger through life, stumbling around potholes and occasionally crawling out from under a rock!  In an attempt to improve our quality of life we may redouble our efforts for a while, only to sink back exhausted into a sense of failure – it’s hardly a picture of reigning in life!

The clear message that Paul gives is inspiring: it’s not what we put into life or achieve that makes the difference and determines our quality of life, but rather what we receive – God’s abundant grace.  His ‘abundant provision of grace’ means there is plenty available to us for any situation we might be facing – and along with this we also receive God’s gift of righteousness -the effect of Jesus dying for us.

The more you open your heart to what Jesus has done and what he can give you, then the more you will not be pushed under by all that life brings your way.
