The right attitude

‘Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”’ John 11.40

Some people can live through, what might seem to us, a fairly normal, routine day and yet see the majesty of God in almost every situation. Others can stare wonders in the face and be totally unmoved. Attitude is what makes the difference. Is your attitude open to the wonders of God, or is it more of an assumption that nothing particularly special will happen today?

Some traditions of the Christian church encourage the practice of constant prayer. The basic idea is that a phrase such as, ‘Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner’ (or a version of this) is repeated prayerfully until it becomes part of your breathing pattern. This probably doesn’t happen immediately, but with perseverance it is amazing how quickly you can find these words popping into your mind throughout the day, which greatly increases your consciousness of Jesus.

Along with this growing awareness of Jesus comes an increased perception of his activity in your life, which results in your vision of God’s glory growing as well. As you breathe in whisper, “Lord Jesus Christ,” and as you exhale say, “Have mercy on me.”

Comments

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
