God watches over me | 4

“This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face towards you and give you peace.” Numbers 6.23-26

Once again, we come back to God’s heart for us.  The word ‘keep’ contains a sense of guarding, preserving or keeping watch over.  God wants to watch over and preserve what he values, not something he dislikes.

This becomes personal in Isaiah 43.4 when we read that God’s people are ‘precious and honoured in his sight’ and he loves them.  This is true for each individual and not just people in the plural (referring to a whole nation).  God included this phrase in his blessing because he wants everyone to know his heart is to keep and preserve each one of his people.

As you spend a few moments sitting before God, take seriously the fact that you are precious to him and say these words slowly to yourself: “I am precious and honoured in his sight and he loves me.”  Allow that truth to sink in and find the enormity of his heart for you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
