A choice of two visions

‘But by the grace of God I am what I am’ 1 Corinthians 15.10

All of us are people of faith: we put our faith in something and live our lives accordingly. This helps to define us and make us the people we are. So the big question is this: in what do you put your faith?

Many people put their faith in how their past affects them and they live accordingly. It is so natural to look at our lives, the mistakes we have made and the things that have gone wrong, and to assume that such events define us. When we go down that road it is easy to see ourselves as weak and ineffective – people who will probably not achieve much at all.

However, there is another option. When God looks at us he sees his own children, members of his family whom he loves passionately, upon whom he has poured out the power of the cross and within whom he dwells by the Holy Spirit. Thanks to all this, he sees us as people through whom all things are possible.

In which of these visions will you choose to put your faith? All too often we adopt an opinion of ourselves that is quite contrary to God’s vision of us and the challenge is to put our faith in his vision so that we can say, ‘. . . by the grace of God I am what I am’ – totally loved and forgiven.

Ponder these lovely words now – and believe them.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
