A growing seed

“Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop – a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Matthew 13.8
It’s so easy to be critical of ourselves. We see only too clearly the things we do wrong and the ways in which we fail. We compare ourselves to other people, and more often than not judge ourselves less favourably than we do them. This part of the parable of the sower gives us a different picture of ourselves. It shows us one of the ways that God sees us – as a growing seed.
When we come before God and confess what we have done wrong, it is to receive his forgiveness – not to underline what we see as our inner rottenness. When God looks at us he sees a growing seed; seed that he has planted, tended, and longs to see grow into its full potential.
As you sit with God now, and as you live out this day, don’t be fixated on your failure or on how other people are doing. Instead, rejoice that your Father is watching over you with pride – guiding you, maybe pruning a little, but utterly committed to seeing you a little bit taller and a little bit stronger by the end of the day.
