Acknowledging your rightful place

‘Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God’ John 13.3

Perhaps one of the greatest things to which we can aspire is to have ‘the mind of Christ’ – but what does this mean? We probably have some notion of something unattainable that is always meant to be going through our minds; a purity of thought or a level of faith that seems too distant for us! However, today’s verse gives us a hint as to what having the mind of Christ might really be about. Jesus had a certainty of where he belonged – he knew he was from God.

If we could somehow capture this certainty about our own identity it could change so much. Never again would we doubt God’s presence with us or wonder whether we were loved by God. So how do we achieve this confidence?

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is within each of us, crying out the words, “Abba, Father” (Romans 8.15 and Galatians 4.6). This suggests that finding our true identity is not about seeking to convince ourselves of a truth, but rather stilling ourselves to catch the call of the Spirit within us, that we are God’s beloved children in whom he takes pleasure.

You are his beloved child. Catch these words as if it were the Holy Spirit whispering them to you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
