Act or react

“Surely God is my salvation” Isaiah 12.2

Perhaps one of the most common mistakes we make as Christians is that we tend to react rather than act. Something either major or quite trivial may happen and rather than approach it in a manner consistent with our faith, our tendency is to react to it with inappropriate emotions, often without much faith and usually with regret!

It would be wonderful if we used these words from Isaiah as a filter for our thoughts and emotions, that whatever happens to us or around us, we can say, “God is my salvation.” He is our help, our way out of trouble, and his strength will give us what we need.

It is true that to pray everywhere all the time means that we have to pray somewhere some of the time. The same is true of the Bible verses we want to be familiar to us in times of need; we have to store them up.

Take these words, “God is my salvation”, and sit quietly repeating them over and over to yourself. As you do this, let the hours ahead of you come under the truth of them. Then come back to them again throughout the day.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
