As sure as the day is day

“This is what the Lord says: ’If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, then … David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.’” Jeremiah 33.20-21
There is so much hope and promise in this verse. Our faith is that the descendant of David who reigns on the throne is Jesus, and as long as it is light during the day and dark during the night, Jesus is still King.
Sometimes we need to be reminded of this. We all have times in our lives when it seems that we are in the hands of powers and forces beyond our control, but the truth is that Jesus is still King; he is still sovereign and reigning over all. Faith is holding on to the truth of what we believe when all around us circumstances are screaming the opposite.
There is an amazing moment in John 11.27, when Jesus and Martha are standing before the tomb of her brother Lazarus. Martha is confused and hurt, and yet she is able to say to Jesus, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.” Despite the circumstances, she held on to her faith.
If things are tough for you today, remind yourself that Jesus is still Lord and reigning over all, and say – even through gritted teeth – “I believe you are King today.”
