Being at peace with not knowing why

“It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.” Acts 1.7
There are some things we know and some things we don’t know! These words that Jesus spoke to his followers just before his Ascension to heaven imply that there are some things that we are simply not meant to know, so any quest to find answers will be fruitless.
When we are seeking healing, either for ourselves or someone else, one of the questions that is unlikely to receive a clear answer is, “Why?” Possible reasons may be suggested but deep down these may never fully satisfy and perhaps we need to learn to be at peace with this. Yet there are some things that we do know and are called to grasp and rely on.
One of these is the love of God. Despite confusion and things beyond our understanding, God’s love is always a reality. In our limited understanding we might be tempted to look at our situation and ask: “If he loves me then why . . .?” However, our calling is to take a different attitude, and say: “Because God loves me, then . . .”
Don’t allow your situation and suffering to cause you to doubt the love of God, but instead try to apply the love of God to the issues in your life so that they can be touched and transformed.
