Being attentive to God

‘…he has spoken to us by his Son’ Hebrews 1.2

We all have things we are facing – choices to be made, events causing us anxiety or a real need to know something of the presence of God. How can we hear what God is saying to us at these times?

It begins by coming back to the truth that God has already spoken to us; he has given us Jesus. Through all his words and actions, Jesus has perfectly revealed God’s heart and message to us. So what we need to do is to apply that message to our own personal situation, and this begins by asking and listening.

Bring your particular need or situation to God, knowing that he cares deeply about you, and ask him to speak through the words and actions of Jesus in the Bible. Pay attention to what comes to mind as you pray; it may not be so much about God giving you specific direction in the choices you have to make, but rather what is the truth about you and your situation that he is laying on your heart? Hold on to this truth, maybe even write it down, and walk into the day ahead holding firmly to what God has revealed to you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
