Being changed

‘But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, “The LORD is great!”’ Psalm 70.4

Perhaps one of the things the psalmist is trying to convey in this psalm is that our faith should make a difference to us. What we hold to be true in our hearts should seep out and affect our lives in all sorts of ways.

In Ezekiel 46.9, there is a fascinating passage in which the instruction is that if people enter the Temple by one gate, they should leave by another. One application of this is that the way we leave our times of prayer should be different from how we enter them. In other words, our prayers should have changed things and made a difference to us. A question we should all bear in mind as we draw towards the end of our prayer times is this: what will we take forward into the day ahead?

What insight, revelation, assurance or conviction will you hold on to throughout the next few hours? Write it down so that you can’t forget it and then try to revisit it at different times of the day. In this way you are making sure that what you received from God really is making a difference to your day and that you, who are seeking God, begin to rejoice in him.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
