Being glad before the Lord

‘Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.’ Psalm 100.2

Who is this verse addressing? Perhaps it’s not those who feel full of peace, happiness and wellbeing, as they would hardly need guidance on how to worship with gladness and joy! Perhaps the people the psalmist is really addressing are those who feel very little in the way of gladness and who would rather sing a dirge than a song of joy!

Obedience becomes much harder when we are called to do something we really don’t feel like doing – and joyful worship is often like this. At such times, God gives us a gift – joyful songs. When you feel less than joyful, choose a joyful song and sing it to yourself, and allow it to impact you. Catch what it says, recognise the truths that have inspired the song and let them touch your heart.

Try it now! Call to mind a song or hymn of joy and let it move you from where you are to where God wants you to be.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
