Being God’s fellow-worker

‘…God’s fellow-worker…’ 1 Thessalonians 3.2

Paul uses these words to describe Timothy, but they also describe all of us as we go about our Christian lives.

Your faith is not simply for your own benefit and blessing. It is the good news of God for everyone, and we are all called to work with God in sharing this good news with others. You may feel this is a guilt-inducing challenge, whereas it is actually a wonderful vision of how you can learn to think of yourself. You have the potential to be a fellow worker with God.

It is so easy to compare ourselves with others and feel that we are lacking, but God does not do this. The Bible never speaks of different grades of Christian. We are all filled with the same Holy Spirit, but where we differ is in our personality and the circumstances in which God has placed us. What we all share in common is God’s vision of us as his fellow workers.

Living within us all is the same Holy Spirit who has filled every Christian who has ever lived. God is looking at you – his fellow worker – with pride right now. What will you do with him today?

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
