‘. . . God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.’ 1 Thessalonians 2.12
Some people seem to live such exciting Christian lives – often doing amazing things for God, always witnessing and being used in some wonderful way. In contrast, many of us regard our Christian lives as much quieter and in comparison even a little dull!
When we make such comparisons, we are probably looking at the external outworking of our Christian lives. The temptation is to forget all about the calling that Paul outlines in this verse when he says that we are called ‘into his kingdom and glory’.
To be called into God’s kingdom is to recognise that you are a part of something much bigger than yourself – you exist for God. This means reflecting on what he wants you to do in each situation and then acting on it, regardless of whether it is evangelistic activity or quiet prayer.
To live for his glory is to be willing for God to reveal something of himself through you. This might be by taking a prominent lead, or by sharing time with another person over a cup of coffee where God is never mentioned. However you put it into practice, what an encouraging truth to bear in mind today.
Whoever you are, you are called into his kingdom and his glory; you exist for God and, if you are willing, he will shine through you today.
