Bringing pleasure to God | 7

‘… Jesus Christ … has made us to be … priests to serve his God and Father.’ Revelation 1.6

Jesus making you a ‘priest’ might seem quite an odd concept. Actually, it is a word that speaks of the high calling you have and the regard Jesus has for you.

Throughout the Old Testament, the main function of a priest was to bring pleasure to God by ensuring the correct sacrifices were offered. The priests didn’t simply do this as an empty ritual but because they believed it was something that gave the living God pleasure.

As someone whom Jesus has made a ‘priest’, you, too, can bring pleasure to the living God by the sacrifice you bring to him, and what brings him most pleasure is when you lift up the person of Jesus.

This is an amazing calling! You are called to revel in the love of God which gave Jesus for you, the forgiveness and healing that flow from him and the grace that can pour through you to others. Thinking and acting on these things brings deep pleasure to God, and will bring a sense of fulfilment to you as you step into the shoes he created for you. Be his priest and bring him pleasure.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
