Jehoshaphat was extremely alarmed when he was told that a vast army was coming against him, but his response was amazing. Rather than make enquiries about the detailed nature of the threat, he turned to God instead.
What we look at becomes magnified in our sight. No doubt if Jehoshaphat had looked more closely at the problem, the details of the attack would have grown even more intimidating; but he made an immediate choice to look to God and encouraged everyone else to do the same. This resulted in the nature of God being magnified in his sight. In the prayer that follows, he expressed his heartfelt faith when he said, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” (2 Chronicles 20.12)
Things happen to us, some dreadfully unfair, but having a problem is not the issue – it’s what we do with it that counts. If there is something looming large in your life, be like Jehoshaphat and turn to God and say, “I do not know what to do, but my eyes are upon you.”
