Christ over all

‘And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.’ Colossians 1.18

If you were to take these words seriously, your response could certainly not be, “So what?” Jesus oversees everything you do; he has gone before you into every dark place and has experienced first-hand the wonder of God’s transforming power. In every situation, he is Lord.

Whatever the next 24 hours hold for you, the prospects have got to improve if all the above is true because Jesus is there. He who has supremacy over everything will be in each situation that you face. If you can lift your eyes to see things through this perspective, then your day should begin to look a little different.

Perhaps the key is your awareness of it. Take five minutes now to slowly and thoughtfully say the name ‘Jesus’. If you follow this practice for a few days, the effect will be that your mind returns to his name increasingly throughout the course of each day, and with an awareness of his name comes the reality of all that he is for you in whatever you do.
