Christmas is about you!

“Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2.11

There are often many comments about who really benefits from Christmas: “Christmas is really for the children”, “Christmas is so important for the retail trade”, “Christmas is a great time to show people that you love them”. Whereas there might be truth in all these statements, they are only a part of the truth – Christmas is about you!

God did not ‘need’ Christmas; he has no need of a Saviour, but you do. God did not ‘need’ to be born among us to show himself the way, but you desperately need to know the way. As God looked on the state of the whole world, and the state of your life, he saw that each of us really needed Jesus. The world needed Jesus, but so do you in a personal and individual way.

As you pause right now, repeat these words a few times: “To me a Saviour is given”. Then throughout this special day, along with all the trappings that will characterise your Christmas, let the words rise to the surface. “To me a Saviour is given” – not someone to judge you or spy on you, but someone to rescue you.
