Coming to God with confidence

‘In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.’ Ephesians 3.12

What is it exactly that we can be confident about as we approach God? Are we being told that we will get exactly what we want?  It would be nice to think so, but probably not!  We can be confident of at least two things: God is utterly committed to showing his love for us and he is also totally committed to our transformation.

When we approach God we can be confident that he will hear us. We are told to cast our burdens upon him because he cares for us (1 Peter 5.7).  Sometimes it may feel as if we are speaking to a brick wall but this is never the reality.  We are always speaking to the one who is so committed to us that he gave Jesus for us.

We can also be confident that God is transforming us.  Naturally we would love him to transform our lives in the order that might suit us, but he may have his own agenda.  All transformation is for his glory.

This is our confidence when we approach God: that we will be heard and changed by the one who loves us completely.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
