Decision needed today!

‘And the leaders of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua … who stood opposite them to give praise and thanksgiving.’ Nehemiah 12.24

Occasionally in the Bible we come across lists of people, and Nehemiah 12 is no exception. It names some people and the duties they undertook. It can be tempting to skip past this thinking it is probably irrelevant to us, yet there is something quite wonderful about this verse – it lists those who stood to give thanks and praise. For as long as the Bible remains, this is how they will be remembered.

It raises the question of how we would like to be remembered. If your name was to be recorded for all eternity on a particular list, which list would it be? It is worth considering this because the good news is that you can choose which list now, and then begin to work towards it. Would you like to be a person of praise? Then begin to offer more praise. Would you like to be a person of faith? Then start to exercise faith in your daily life. Would you like to be a person of love? Then begin to show love to others as a matter of priory for you.

The men of Nehemiah 12 were listed because they chose a certain course of action and followed their choice through. Today, make a decision about the way you would like to be remembered and begin to live it.
