Did you remember to praise God?

‘I will praise the LORD all my life;  I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.’  Psalm 146.2  This is quite a challenge – how good are we at praising God?  We may do it quite naturally when we sing a great hymn of praise or when something wonderful happens in our life, but when we are confronted by such phrases as ‘all my life’ and ‘as long as I live’, we probably feel a bit lacking in our praise! Perhaps one of the best ways in which we can grow in our praise of God is to regularly spend a little time reflecting on the past day.  It is so easy for God’s many blessings to pass us by and for moments when he has touched us to slip away.  Yet perhaps the psalmist is inviting us to go deeper still.  It isn’t just a matter of sorting the events of our lives into good and bad moments so that we can praise him for the good ones, but it is also about exploring those darker and more confusing times and asking ourselves where we saw God at work then. Can we see him in the reactions of other people, for example, and in the grace that was shown to us? It is certainly deeply challenging to praise God all our lives and not just when we feel like it!

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
