Does God hate me?

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.”
Colossians 3.5-6
I think that we would all agree that we live in a world where these things are all too prevalent, and because of this we are all prone to the pull of these temptations. However, to read about the wrath of God coming adds a new level of fear to the equation. If we find ourselves drawn to some of these tendencies, does it mean that the wrath of God is going to come upon us?
It is fascinating to look more carefully at what this passage says. It is not a case of us being impure, but rather that impurity is something into which we are drawn simply by the nature of living on this planet. God has given us a way out of it, however, because he hates what these things do to us. This is why the passage goes on to talk about wrath. It is not that God is going to pour out his wrath upon us, but upon those things that so easily spoil his image in each of us.
God does not hate us because we fall prey to temptation, but he does hate what such activity does to us. When we notice all the failings that tarnish us, we might wonder how we can possibly be loved looking as we do? Yet God sees each person wiped clean and loves what he sees.
