Doing good

“He must turn from evil and do good” 1 Peter 3.11

What are you going to achieve today? There is one simple but challenging way that you can bring pleasure to God and to others as you live each day – by doing good.

This command is about keeping your eyes open for opportunities to perform acts of kindness to others. It may be a small act of kindness for a friend or family member, a comforting word to someone who seems to be stressed or a generous act to a stranger who appears to be in need. It’s not just about being nice, but about taking a stand. No matter how you have been treated in life, what may have happened to you or how you are feeling, Peter points out that God’s calling to you is to repay evil with blessing, to do good and act with kindness in all situations.

This is something you can do everywhere. You can rise above your own feelings and be a blessing to others.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
