Encouragement

‘Let us not give up meeting together…let us encourage one another’ Hebrews 10.25

The writer of Hebrews has been encouraging his readers to come to God, who has done so much for them. In this verse he reminds us that our faith is not a solitary matter. Instead it is something we share with others, and each one of us has our own part to play in relation to the body of Christ. One of these is encouragement.

You will probably come across other people today and have a chance to speak to them, whether they are known to you or strangers. Most people need encouragement, and they thrive on it. This is not just saying something nice for the sake of it, but it involves asking yourself what you can genuinely say to affirm them in something they do. If someone is important to you, tell them why; if they are always there for you, tell them how much it means to you.

Finally, learn to receive the encouragement of others for yourself. It can be all too easy to dismiss it and pretend it’s not needed. Instead, treat it as a gift and don’t throw it away.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
