Enjoy the relationship

‘…we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus’ Philippians 3.3

These words from Paul bring us right back to the heart of our Christian faith. It is not about doing things the right way or saying certain prayers at specific times, but it is all about relationship. We all know this, but from time to time it is so easy to unwittingly wander away from relationship into ritual. It is not that ritual in prayer is wrong, but it is easy to use the ritual to cover up a lack of relationship. Sometimes we can deliberately retreat into formal prayers because we know that the intimate relationship seems to be evaporating.

Whatever you are doing now, pause to ask yourself: “Where is Jesus for me right now?” Let him reveal himself to you. You may sense him standing beside you or sitting close to you; he may be all around you or within you. There is no right or wrong answer – let him be wherever he wants to be.

Now speak to him, share your heart with him and enjoy a relationship with him. Be responsive to the thoughts and pictures that drop into your mind because this is his communication with you. Enjoy the relationship!

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
