Finding God’s passion in our actions

‘The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.’ Isaiah 9.7

In this chapter, Isaiah talks about a list of things that we would all love to see established, including the rule and reign of God and his justice over all. Verse 9 shows us how it will happen – the passionate desire of God to bring all this about.

This does not mean, of course, that we can sit back and watch God do all the work, as we too have a part to play. In 1 Corinthians 3.9, Paul talks about us being ‘God’s fellow-workers’. However, our efforts – whether they are grand achievements on a global scale or reflecting God’s heart to a lonely neighbour – all take on a different perspective when we recognise that behind them is the zeal of the Lord and his passionate desire for his people.

Having this vision changes our perspective on what we do. No longer are our actions simply routine duties, but rather they are our response to the passions of God. Whatever you do in his name today, pause and seek to catch God’s passion for it.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
