Finding Jesus | 4

‘Let us fix our eyes on Jesus…’ Hebrews 12.2

The people in the Gospel accounts could see and touch Jesus, but since he no longer exists in the physical realm this is a rather strange command from the author of the letter to the Hebrews. However, it’s not our physical eyes that are being spoken about here. In Ephesians 1.18, Paul talks about ‘the eyes of our heart’ being opened, meaning an awareness beyond physical sight.

As you sit quietly, enjoy thinking about how you are a beloved child of the Father. After a while, ask the Holy Spirit to bring you into the presence of Jesus. You may have a general sense of him being with you, or perhaps a picture in your mind showing something of his presence or even an awareness of his peace with you in your room. This is your ‘spiritual’ eyes opening to his presence.

The Holy Spirit loves to bring us glimpses of the presence of Jesus. We probably couldn’t cope with a full revelation of Jesus enthroned at the right hand of God, but we can cope with the sense of him being here with us now. Find him and enjoy being with him.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
