Finding peace

‘You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.’ Isaiah 26.3

The English Standard Version of the Bible replaces the phrase ‘whose mind is steadfast’ with ‘whose mind is stayed on you’. The sense is that when we fix our minds on the one whose heart is fixed on us, something of him is able to flow into us. We are told in this verse that by searching for God and fixing our minds on him we will receive peace, that quality of life desired by almost every person in the world.

Peace is often regarded as what will happen when something else is achieved first, such as when there is no need to worry because there is sufficient money in the bank or when a relationship goes well and becomes a real blessing. So a good place to start in your search for peace is to bring your concerns to God, rather than attempting to cope with them without him. He knows your needs and desires and he may or may not want to change them along the way, but the best place to start is to take them to him.

What do you think will help you on the quest to find peace? Come with boldness to God who loves you and has given everything for you. As you share your thoughts and fix your eyes on him, let something of him touch you and begin to bring change.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
