‘Come to the sanctuary, which he has consecrated for ever.’ 2 Chronicles 30.8
There is something very beautiful about this invitation from King Hezekiah to his people, who had wandered away from God. He was saying that wherever they might feel they were spiritually, there was a place that they could always return to – a place of sanctuary and rest where they could meet with God. This was the place that God himself had established, a place that speaks about his willingness and desire that we come back to him.
This sanctuary is not far from us – in fact, it is within us. Paul speaks about us being temples of the Holy Spirit, whose presence within us is the sanctuary that he has set apart.
This means that the God we long for is never far from us. In fact, he is only as far away as it takes to say the word, ‘Jesus’. To speak his name purposefully is to speak face to face with the one who gave up everything to reveal the Father’s love to us. Speaking his name is about coming back to the sanctuary and finding rest. Take a few minutes to do that now.
The God you long for is never far from you. In fact, he is only as far away as it takes to say the word, ‘Jesus’.
Why not take a minute to listen to John talk about what peace is:
