“Then Moses said to him, ‘If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us?’” Exodus 33.15-16
There is something about the phrase, ‘The Presence of God’ that engages people. The very idea that there could be special places where his presence is stronger than other places is a captivating thought.
Moses was desperate that God’s presence should go with the people as he could not see any other way that they could flourish unless he was with them. It is very tempting for us to think the same! As we look to the future, we might also be asking God to go with us, knowing full well that without him things probably will not turn out too well. The truth is though, he will be there! The presence of God is no longer something we must ask for – it is something that is promised and assured. Jesus said he would always be with us, and the Holy Spirit has been given to us. Ephesians 4 tells us that Jesus fills the whole universe – what more do we need?
If you want to pray for anything, begin by thanking God for being there and ask that your heart might be even more open to know his presence – but whether you feel it or not, Jesus is with you every step of the way.
