‘Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.’ Colossians 3.2
Paul’s instruction highlights an amazing reality that we too often forget – we are always living in the reality of two worlds. There is the world we inhabit and experience through our natural senses, and a spiritual world of which we are equally a part and which is as real as the other world in which we live. However, we touch and experience this spiritual world in a different way, through faith. What does this mean?
Faith can be described in different ways, and one way of viewing it is to choose to believe something you cannot experience with your natural senses. In other words, right now – wherever you are, whatever you are doing and however you are feeling – you are in the presence of God, surrounded by his love and with his attention fixed on you. He’s not waiting to see what you will do wrong but is longing for you to reach out to him and acknowledge his presence.
Simply speaking the name ‘Jesus’ is enough to proclaim his loving presence with you wherever you are. Where is he for you right now? Set your mind on him and let him invade your world.
