Forgiveness

“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” Isaiah 43.25

Why do we hold on to memories of what we have done wrong if it’s true that God blots out our sins and remembers them no more?

One of the reasons for this is that we have not yet fully grasped that the way God deals with sin is by paying for it. He puts the punishment for it on Jesus and doesn’t simply pretend it never happened. Yet when we continue to dwell on our sins, it is as if they are still constantly present with us, even though the truth is that they have been dealt with, fully paid for and we actually do not have the right to keep dwelling on them.

Is there something from your past that still weighs upon you, even though you have confessed it many times already? Jesus did not take it from you so that you and he could both have it. He took it from you so that you would be free. Grasping this truth begins with worship. Worship Jesus for what he has already done with your sin; don’t ask him to take it away any more, but worship him that he already has.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
