Getting our needs met


‘I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.’ Ephesians 3.16-17

The concept of Christ dwelling in our hearts is probably something we take quite lightly, thinking of it as a lovely description of his presence with us. It is this – and more. When Christ dwells in us, so does everything that is a part of him: peace, power, love, strength, endurance, grace, oneness with the Father and so on.

We all have needs, and we can spend a considerable amount of time being only too aware of them. Problems can arise when we begin to look for answers to them in inappropriate ways. However, our perspective changes when we begin to see that we already have the answer to our needs in the person of Jesus, who dwells in us.

If you are aware of a genuine need right now, don’t try to deny it. Instead take a moment to lift your eyes from your need and, in whatever way you can, find the presence of Jesus with you. Fix your eyes on him and let his presence be a reality for you. What does Jesus have that you need right now? If he has it and he is in you, you have whatever you need within you, so begin to give thanks for it.
