God is thinking about you

‘How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!’ Psalm 139.17

It is not difficult to believe that God’s thoughts are precious and valuable, but some other translations bring a fascinating insight to this verse. The New Living Translation phrases it, ‘How precious are your thoughts about me.’ In other words, it is not just the general thoughts of God that are precious, it is also what he is specifically thinking about you.

The very concept of pondering what God thinks about you might be quite alarming! Even if you know he loves you, it can still be unnerving to consider what he might actually be thinking about you. After all, you might not think too highly of yourself, so what must God be thinking? Yet when David had this revelation of God’s heart, he recognised that God’s thoughts were precious.

A lovely thing to do is to stand before Jesus and seek to see yourself through his eyes. It isn’t as difficult as you might think! Begin by reminding yourself of some of the great truths: you were chosen before the foundation of the world, adopted into Father God’s precious family and he willingly gave Jesus to die for you. Now take a moment to stand before Jesus and ask him to show you what he sees when he looks at you. He may speak in the form of a picture, a Bible verse, or even a random thought that seems to drop into your mind.

Find his love for you and revel in it.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
