“This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face towards you and give you peace.” Numbers 6.23-26
God’s heart is fully revealed here – he wants to bless us. Yet sadly, so many people feel that his desire is to judge or condemn them. They sense that he is indeed with them at every moment, but that nothing escapes his eye as he watches them to record everything they do wrong, ensuring they get away with nothing. This simple statement shatters that picture: God’s desire is to bless us and not to record our every failing.
When the Old Testament was translated into Greek, the word used to translate the Hebrew word ‘bless’ literally means ‘to speak well of’. This is the lovely nature of God’s desire to bless us. He is not recording our every fault but speaking well of us.
How do we change our image of God? Take a moment to remind yourself of the truth of the Father’s love and that you are his precious child. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring you a sense of Jesus with you right now. Whether you feel unworthy before him or not, what do you sense Jesus wants to communicate to you?
