‘Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.’ Psalm 147.5
This verse might seem like an obvious statement, but the implications of it are enormous for us, especially the phrase, ‘his understanding has no limit’. It is precisely our limited understanding that causes us so many problems when it comes to trusting God, because we have no idea how he will work. This lack of vision about what God can do causes our trust to dwindle.
However, the fact that his understanding has no limit means that there is nothing about your situation of which he is unaware, nothing about any contributing factors that he is unable to see and also that there is no limit to his vision of what could happen. Unless you understand this, trusting him is always going to be difficult. It is natural to put your trust in what seems real, and if the possibility of what God can do is not real, how then can you trust in what seems unreal or unreasonable?
If you are facing a difficult situation at this time, honesty is entirely appropriate – as long as you are honest about the unlimited nature of God’s vision for your life as well. Let these words go through your mind for a few minutes as you contemplate your immediate situation, and let them enlarge your vision of what he could do: ‘You see this situation in a different way than I do.’
