“I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” Luke 4.43
One of the most noticeable points in this statement is the fact that the kingdom of God is good news. So often the message portrayed by the church smacks of the opposite and everything comes down to rules.
The reason why the kingdom of God is good news is because it concerns the king – Jesus. Time and again in the Gospels we read of Jesus interacting with people and bringing good news: healing the sick, forgiving the guilty, bringing freedom for the oppressed. It is this same Jesus who is alive today. The issues you are facing are real, but so is Jesus. As he stands with you right now, what would you consider the good news of the kingdom to be? It comes down to this: as you read the Gospels with wonder and delight at what Jesus came to do, what would you like to ask him to do for you?
All too often, we fear God wants us to be miserable, or at least joyful in our miserable circumstances – but what if good news really is good news for you, and he wants to make it a reality in your life? As you stand in the presence of Jesus, who was sent to proclaim good news, what do you want to ask him to do for you?
