Growing in Trust

“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘…  But I took… I gave him… I assigned… I sent… I afflicted…and I brought you out.’” Joshua 24.2-5

In this passage God spoke through Joshua to remind the people of all that he had done for them.  It is amazing to look through the whole chapter and count the number of times the word ‘I’ occurs.  God was not being self-centred but wanted them to know that every good thing they had achieved had actually been because he had been with them. The reason for this message was that by remembering God’s presence with them in the past, they would know that he was with them in the present and the future.

It is often hard to recognise the presence of God in our lives at any current moment. We tend to judge it by whether or not we feel him. Take a moment to reflect on the past few days.  As you look back, how can you see that the hand of God was present? What has he been doing?  Reflect on whether you sensed this at the time.

Genuine trust is choosing to believe that not only is God with us, but he is also active – even when we can’t see or feel him. This trust is our calling as Christians and looking back at God’s actions in our lives is a sure way of growing it.  What issues do you need to trust him with at the moment?

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
