‘… worship the Lord in the splendour of his holiness.’ 1 Chronicles 16.29
Holiness can have quite a negative feel to it! It can imply giving up everything you think of as fun, going around with a long face while pretending to be full of joy or cutting yourself off from anything in the world that might possibly contaminate you.
The most holy person must have been Jesus, the Son of God. Yet we read of him eating and drinking, mixing with all sorts of people and going to parties where he presumably didn’t spend the whole time condemning everyone or he would not have received many return invitations! What does this say about holiness?
Holiness is more to do with what you embrace than what you give up. It is about embracing the depth of the Father’s love for you, the presence of Jesus with you as you pray and living as one who bears his name and his Spirit wherever you go. This is a holiness that brings joy to others; it is attractive and reflects the wonder of the person of Jesus.
Take a moment to specifically embrace these truths so that they will be with you throughout the day.
