How do you see yourself?

“Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honour.” Exodus 28.40

Instructions about the vestments for the priests in the Old Testament are not usually the place to which we turn to find inspiration! This verse, however, says something beautiful to us: God wanted his priests to stand before him with dignity and honour. The clothing they wore was simply designed to reflect this.

Whilst we are not so concerned with our outward clothing as we stand before God, that inner attitude that God wants us to catch has never changed. He still wants us to stand before him with dignity and honour. This is largely about us recapturing the wonder of what it means to be a son or daughter of our Abba, Father. He holds us in such love that he gave Jesus for us. We are worth that much to him.

Many of us often have an inbuilt tendency to view ourselves in a very negative light, thinking of ourselves as far less than people so loved by God that he gave his life for us. We would do well to remind ourselves of this daily. Every time the priests dressed in those special clothes, they would be reminded of how they were to see themselves – and we would do well to do the same.

You are precious and honoured in his sight, and he loves you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
