How do you see yourself?

“Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honour.” Exodus 28.40
Instructions in the Old Testament about the priests’ vestments are not usually what we would turn to for inspiration! This verse, however, says something important to us.
God wanted his priests to stand before him with dignity and honour, and the clothing they wore was meant to reflect this. We are not so concerned with our outward clothing as we stand before God, but the importance of our inner attitude that God wants us to catch has never changed. He still wants us to stand before him with dignity and honour. This is largely about us recognising the wonder of what it means to be a son or daughter of our Abba, Father. He holds us in such love that he gave Jesus for us; we are worth that much to him.
It’s easy for us to have an inbuilt tendency to regard ourselves in rather a negative light, and certainly to feel unworthy to be considered someone so loved by God that he willingly gave his life for us. Yet this is a wonderful truth that we would do well to remember on a daily basis. Every time those priests in today’s verse dressed in their special clothing, they would be reminded of how they were to see themselves and we would do well to do the same.
You are precious and honoured in God’s sight, and he loves you.
