If only you knew . . .

‘Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb’ Mark 16.2

As we read of the women going to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body, it is worth pondering this – if only they knew . . .

If only they knew what they were going to find when they arrived – their grief replaced by joy, an angel waiting for them, Jesus risen from death and fresh instructions for the disciples about the future. If only they had known, then everything would have been so much clearer.

This challenge could just as easily be put to us – if only we knew who it is that is constantly in our midst. Paul writes in Romans 8.11, ‘…the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you’. In other words, this very same power is living within us.

All too often it is tempting to limp through life feeling powerless and at the mercy of the events that happen to us. Nothing could be further from the truth. Living in you right now is resurrection power. You are not at the mercy of anything that happens to you because you have living within you one who is greater than anything else. If only you knew!
