Intimacy with Jesus

‘If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ . . . ’ 2 Peter 2.20

Intimacy with Jesus certainly enhances our prayers and provides a real sense of companionship in a world that can sometimes seem hostile – but there is even more! This intimacy is also a means of power to escape the corrupting influence of the world.

One way of thinking of this intimacy is to visualise Jesus as a sealed unit dwelling within you, but the more open, honest and vulnerable you become with him, the more his transforming power is able to leak out into you.

It can be easy to think that intimacy with Jesus involves regularly hearing his whispers, but it probably begins with you turning to him frequently, being honest about your feelings and sharing your vulnerabilities. As your intimacy with him increases, so does his intimacy with you and his transforming touch is able to change you.

If being honest and open about yourself is an important part of intimacy with Jesus, what are you going to share with him right now?

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
